Tuesday: Over half an inch of rain fell early this morning. Rainfall is almost at the August average with 19 days to go.

The yellow line (this year) on the cumulative rainfall graph continues to fly upwards. However it will still take a very wet autumn to make this a wetter year than 2000. My guess is that we are in for another indian summer.

Monthly temperature graph, updated for July. The month was a degree warmer on average than
last year at 16.6 deg c. The high was 28.2 degrees. As you can see the summer is an obvious improvement
on 2007, but very disappointing in comparison with 2006, which was so hot and dry.

Staplefield Anorak is a privately run 'not-for-profit' website.

Occasional attempts are made to forecast the weather for certain local events. It should be noted that my only qualification for this is a slightly unhealthy interest in the weather, and in rain in particular.

Actual weather (Use the link to Current Weather) is reported every 10 minutes from an automatic Davis weatherstation in my garden in Staplefield. It is not sited very scientifically and is sheltered from the west and northwest, which leads to wind reports which may not represent those experienced elsewhere in the village. The garden is approximately 300ft amsl.
Other readings are generally accurate, although they should not be relied on for anything more than general interest. More information can be found by visiting the data explanations web page.

Other pages on the website depict recent weather graphically, the level of water in my well (which may give some indication of groundwater levels) and a photograph page which is updated every few days.

There is also a Village Noticeboard where personal posts can be made free of charge and a section for business advertising subject to a small charge.

I always welcome feedback, so please use the contact me link if you would like anything added, or removed, from the site, or to send in photographs of anything topical. I also welcome any comment, quote or weather-related joke.
